Mushrooms

The Pine Tree State is an accurate moniker for our home. 89% of Maine is forest coverage, and at nearly 17.7 million acres this makes Maine by far the most densely forested state in the nation. The woodland is where we harness energy, ground our senses, and achieve our serenity as Mainers. Thankfully as we humans use the forest to become whole, there are champions at work restoring natures vitality, the Mushrooms.

Mushrooms are truly remarkable. They allow entire communities of trees to disseminate information and transfer nutrients to one another through their extensive root systems, also known as mycelium. The mushroom mycelial networks function much like our brains do via chemical exchanges and neural messaging to keep our bodies thriving. Mushrooms promote wellbeing and renewal in the life cycle of the forest from birth to growth until decomposition. There is a reason mushrooms are classified as their own kingdom, they are unlike anything else. They have a symbiotic relationship with all that is around them, including us. It is astounding how much we continue to learn about how mushrooms assist in our lives and wellbeing.
